    是的,犯罪者通常是被害者的替罪羔羊,更為常見的是,負罪者擔負了無罪和免於譴責之人的重擔。你們不能區分正邪善惡,因為它們在陽光下共存,彷彿黑線與白線混織在一起。黑線一旦斷開,織工就應檢查整塊布,也應看看機杼。

    倘若你們誰要把一位不忠的妻子送上法庭,請他也用天平測測她丈夫的心,用尺去量量他的靈魂。讓那欲鞭笞犯罪者的人深入那受害者的靈魂。

    倘若你們誰要以正義之名,砍伐一株邪惡之樹,請他瞧瞧那樹的根基;他必將發現善根與惡根、產果的根與不孕的根全部糾結在大地靜謐的心中。

    難道你們信奉的法律所要伸張的正義不是使人懺悔嗎?但是,你們無法將懺悔加諸無辜者頭上,也無法將它從罪犯的心中取出。在午夜它不請自來,發出呼喚:人們會清醒,審視自身。而你們這些將瞭解公正的人,如果不在青天白日下明察秋毫,又怎會瞭解公正呢?
